By night, The Free Association is a buzzing 100-seat comedy theatre. By day, it’s one of the most distinctive event and rehearsal spaces in south London. Hire the theatre, the upstairs workshop room, or the whole building.
Find us at Arch 26, Old Union Yard Arches, 229 Union Street, Southwark, SE1 0LR: three minutes from Southwark tube, and within easy reach of Waterloo, London Bridge, Borough, and the Southbank.
Hire the theatre
Hire our ground floor, 100-seat theatre for your meeting, event or rehearsal. The theatre is fully accessible, with a staffed reception and foyer for welcoming guests. It’s purpose-built for live comedy with a thrust stage, which makes it an excellent room for presentations, pitches, and of course performances.

Available: Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Limited weekend daytime availability. Not available Thursday to Sunday evenings.

Price: From £40 per hour (room hire only; staffing available on request).

Hire the workshop room
Our room upstairs has floor-to-ceiling windows, double-glazed glass doors for privacy, up to 20 chairs, and tables as required. A smart, flexible room for workshops, rehearsals, writers rooms, or meetings.

Discounts: FA students and performers receive a 20% discount on the workshop room, plus access to last-minute “fire sale” pricing.
Exclusive venue hire
Use the full building: our 100-seat theatre (and foyer) downstairs, and a fully stocked bar and private workshop space upstairs – ideal as a breakout area.
