Try A Taster Improv Class
Discover improv in a short, fun, supportive class.
Why take an improv taster class?
Not sure if improv is for you? The taster class is the low-commitment way to find out. Two hours with a proper FA teacher, in a small friendly group … enough to know whether you want to take it further. And if you go on to book a Level 1 beginners class, the taster cost comes off the course fee.
Improv is unscripted – a comedy format where everything is made up on the spot. Unlike scripted performance, there are no lines to learn and no plan: scenes, characters and stories emerge in real time from audience suggestions. It sounds scary, but in practice it’s a great way to build confidence, creativity and quick thinking.

What happens in an improv taster class?
Over two hours, you’ll try the kind of exercises we use in our foundation courses – listening games, short scenes, basic improv principles. Nothing performance-y, and nothing that requires experience. By the end you’ll have a genuine feel for how we teach and whether long-form improv is something you want to pursue.

Frequently Asked
Questions
I have zero experience doing improv. Will I be OK?
You’ll be absolutely fine. In fact, this is the best place to start learning. Don’t worry: your teacher and the rest of the class will have your back.
Can I come alone?
Absolutely, most people do.
Do you take deposits for taster classes?
No, sorry. You must pay in full to secure your place. If you go on to join a full course, that £30 is deducted from the fee.
I have some improv experience. Is this the class for me?
Probably not. If you already know and love improv, why not join us in a class? But if you do just want a laugh and to meet a bunch of new people, then why not!
Why take a taster with The Free Association specifically?
Every FA teacher is an active performer, so you’re getting genuine expertise from day one, even in a 90-minute class. The FA is London’s leading long-form improv school, and the taster is designed to give you a real taste of how we teach, not a watered-down introduction.
“The teachers are all extremely qualified, with years of improv expertise. Can’t recommend enough.”
