Getting to the Building & Entrance
There is space outside the building for queuing.
The main entrance has level access.
The entrance door is wide enough to accommodate wheelchair users.
There is currently no automatic door opening system at the front entrance.
There is 150cm of clear space behind the front door when fully opened, providing wheelchair turning space.
There is currently no outdoor seating.
There is bench seating in the main foyer
The main counter is 86cm high
Ticket sales, merchandise and drinks (other than draft beer) are available at the counter.
Internal Doors & Circulation
Double doors lead from the entrance into the theatre space. These doors do not open automatically.
The accessible toilet is located on the ground floor and can be accessed either:
through the theatre space, or
by exiting the front entrance, travelling approximately 2 metres, and entering via a flat emergency exit door.
Access to the accessible toilet may require staff assistance depending on which route is in use.
Stairs & Level Changes
Entryway Staircase
There are 29 steps leading from the entrance level to the upstairs bar and teaching room.
The staircase consists of multiple flights with platforms and 90‑degree turns.
All steps are approximately 120cm wide with a tread depth of 27cm.
Platforms measure approximately 122cm x 122cm.
Handrails are provided on both sides.
Performance Area
The performance area is at floor level with a slightly raised edge of approximately 10–12mm.
Lighting
Adjustable lighting is in the entrance, upstairs bar, and teaching room, with both bright and relaxed settings.
The theatre uses LED strip lighting as working lights, rather than fluorescent lighting.
Theatre house lighting is festoon lights, and a preset state. Audience seating is illuminated - although house levels are lower (as expected in a theatre)
Heating & Ventilation
The building has adjustable heating and air conditioning.
Fresh air is circulated throughout the space.
The building tends to be generally cool due to its location.
Seating
Theatre Seating
Seating is on shared, padded benches.
There are two Wheelchair user spaces that can be made available by removing a bench (this bench is a quick removal system)
Wheelchair user spaces are near the accessible toilet entrance.
Space for a companion seat alongside wheelchair spaces is possible.
There are three rows of level‑access seating.
Other seating areas require navigating one to three steps.
One seating section includes railings alongside steps.
Bar & Teaching Room Seating
The bar has a mix of high stool, low stool, and chair options. 2 of the chairs are arm chairs.
Teaching room seating arrangements were still under discussion.
Layout & Social Spaces
Walkways meet fire safety width requirements.
The entrance, theatre entrance, and corridor outside the accessible toilet provide 150cm turning space for wheelchair users.
There is currently no separate ground‑floor changing space for performers or students who cannot access the upstairs areas, other than the accessible toilet.
Outdoor space is available during intervals but is public.
Access to Water & Refreshments
There is a bar available on both floors of the building. The upstairs bar has a free access water tap.
Toilets
Accessible Toilet (Ground Floor)
There is one wheelchair‑accessible toilet on the ground floor.
It is accessed via the theatre space or an external flat‑access emergency exit.
The corridor leading to the toilet is approximately 150cm wide.
Fixtures & Facilities
Grab rails are installed at the toilet, sink, and door.
The emergency alarm cord system is in place
There is currently limited counter or shelf space.
There is a hazardous or sanitary waste disposal bin.
Changing Places Toilets
There is no Changing Places toilet within the building.
The nearest Changing Places toilets are:
Imperial War Museum (approximately 16‑minute walk, open until 6pm)
Royal Festival Hall (approximately 19‑minute walk, open until 11pm)
